[Nature Protection Zones ]


NATURE PROTECTION ZONES       



Ecosystems on the brink of being destroyed and in danger, important in terms of science and education are nature parts composed of outstanding examples of species and natural events, reserved for educational and scientific purposes and which are not allowed to be used for tourism purposes.

In Turkey there are 35 proprietary Nature Protection Zones consisting an 84,230-hectare area in total.

Adana-Yumurtalik Nature Protection Zone
It is on the borders of the town Karatas in Adana in the East Mediterranean region. It is a complex protection zone with Seyhan-Ceyhan delta, lake lagoons, coast dunes, plant and animal species, historical and cultural values.

Afyon-Dandindere Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the town Emirdag in Afyon in the Aegean Region. Taurus Deodars (Cetius Libani) generally scattered on the South and Southwest of Turkey is let into the northeast border of transition zone to steppe in Central Western Anatolia and isolated in this area. That the deodar forest called Dandindere is protected and used for scientific and educational studies and has the status of a protection zone in order to enable the natural beauty to be protected without being disrupted.

Antalya-Alacadag Nature Protection Zone
It is in the border of the village Alacadag in Finike in the Western Mediterranean Region. It has a the status of a protection zone thanks to its arboretum scenery with its tree species over 20 consisting scarce kinds of trees, existence of old and long trees among which there are centennial trees, undisrupted natural composition and its potential of rich wild life.

Antalya-Dibek Nature Protection Zone
It is in the site Dibek in the town Kumluca in Antalya in the West Mediterranean Region. There is a deodar stand among which centennial trees are in the area. Moreover, the region shows features of forest ecosystem whose natural beauties are not disrupted.

Antalya-Ciglikara Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of Kizilagac, Zumrutova, Tekkeli villages in the town Elmali in the city Antalya in the West Mediterranean Region. It has a protection zone status because of its being an optimum spreading area of deodar and juniper trees having the characteristic of being centennial trees, the coexistence of many tree species in a small area in some parts, its showing the characteristics of scare ecosystem including a mixture of trembling poplar tree and deodar stands, being an interesting forest landscape, existence of approximately 400 plant species including authentic (endemic) species.

Artvin-Efeler Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the village Camili in the town Borcka in the province Artvin in the East Black Sea Region. The forest Camili-Efeler is not only the only virgin forest ecosystem of Turkey but also of nearly the whole Europe. Beech, fir, spruce, hornbeam, chestnut and older trees are main tree kinds. In addition to those, there are also various oak sorts. Moreover, the basin where the protection zone is located is on the migration way of raptors.

Artvin-Gorgit Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the village Camili in the town Borcka in the province Artvin in the East Black Sea Region. The forest Camili-Gorgit is a forest part composed of centennial trees. Moreover, it is an “Old Forest”. Fir, spruce, beech, hornbeam and alder trees are main tree sorts in the area. Furthermore, the basin where the protection zone is located is on the migration way of raptors.

Artvin-Camburnu Nature Protection Zone
It is in the site Camburnu in the borders of the village Camlikoy in the town Hopa in Artvin in the East Black Sea Region. It is one of the scare areas where the Scotch pine generally growing between 1300-2700 meters is grown in the coastline. Moreover; it is located on the first location where migrant birds from the north through the Black Sea reach mountain chains in the East Black Sea Region.

Balıkesir-Gurgen Mountain Nature Protection Zone
It is located in the borders of the village in the town Edremit in Balikesir in the Marmara Region. It has a protection zone status because of the existence of authentic (endemic) fir of Kazdagi whose lineage is in danger, its characteristics of being a forest ecosystem with is potential of a rich wild life.

Bolu-Bolu Findigi Nature Protection Zone
It is in the Tekneci Basin Site in the town Centrum in Bolu in the West Black Sea Region. It has a protection zone status because of its being a unique ecosystem including samples of a gigantic length (25-30 meters) and diameter (1 meter) of Bolu Hazel (corylus colucna) whose generation is in danger and which grows only in our country, its consisting species of wild life such as deer and roe deer.

Bolu-Akdogan (Crimean Pine) Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the village Yeniguney in the town Centrum in Bolu in the West Black Sea Region. That the area is the unique spreading area of Crimean Pine (Pinus nigra ssp. pallasiana Seneriana) worldwide enables these areas to have a feature of unique natural components.

Bolu-Kokez Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the site Atacak in the town Centrum in Bolu in the West Black Sea Region. It has the characteristic of a scare and virgin forest ecosystem composed of very old and long Uludag fir trees (Abeis bornmulleriana) and beech (Fagus orientalis) trees.

Bolu-Suluklugol Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders in the town Mudurnu in Bolu in the West Black Sea Region. Lake Suluklu is a unique natural component with its well-watered marshy areas and forest ecosystems in addition to plant and animal species sheltered in these ecosystems. It was broken down as a result of tectonic movements; top parts of trees remained above water level and formed an interesting landscape.

Burdur-Sutculer Sweetgum Forest Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the village Kizili in the town Bucak in Burdur in the Mediterranean Region. The most outstanding and isolated spreading of sweetgum scare and in danger is seen in this area. It is thought that it will be presented for the usage of next generations for scientific and educational purposes.

Denizli-Lake Kartal Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the town Beyagac in the province Denizli in the Aegean Region. A glacial valley beginning from a height of 2200 meters and having a 1,5-km length and a 500-700 meters width lies toward northeast after the site Ulugol Hill (2261 meters), one of the peaks of Sandiras. The valley called ‘Glacial Valley of Lake Kartal’ houses formations as a result of certain glacial erosion and accumulation. Lake Kartal, formed in the glacial valley, formation of pure black pine stand around it and the existence of trees, among which there are centennial trees enables the preservation of the characteristic of the area.

Duzce-Demircionu Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the town Akcakara in the province Duzce in the West Black Sea Region. It has a natural protection zone status because of being a scarce ecosystem having a rich sub flora and fauna potential besides the fact that beach, horn beam, chestnut and oak trees form irregular pure and mixed stands, it forms an example of optimum rainy areas whose natural characteristics are not disrupted.

Edirne-Lake Gala Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the villages Karpuzlu and Koyun Tepe in the town Enez in the province Edirne in the Marmara Region. It has a natural protection zone status because of hosting well-watered marshy areas, lakes and forest ecosystems and various animal species sheltering in these ecosystems, the existence of 111 bird species, housing species in danger of extinction, especially Dalmatian pelicans, glossy ibis and little cormorants.

Hatay-Mount Habibi Neccar Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the town Centrum (Antalya) in the province Hatay in the Eastern Mediterranean region. The area is rich in terms of cultural values. Dented into the rocks, Charon monument, in the area is situated on 200 meters north of the church Saint Piyer and is a gigantic bust of Charon known as ‘the boatman of hell’ in mythology, dented into the rocks. Furthermore, the bath Gunahkarlar inside the church Saint Piyer was built by Antiochos I in the third century BC.

Hatay-Tekkoz Kengerliduz Nature Protection Zone
It is on the borders of the village Kullu and Kizlarcayi in the town Dortyol in the province Hatay in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. It has a natural protection zone status as it is an isolated spreading area of the oriental beech (fagus orientalis) and it forms a source of an ecosystem with distinctive features for the forest territory of the Mediterranean region.

Isparta-Forest Kasnak Oak Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the village Upper Gokdere in the town Egridir in the province Isparta in Region of Lakes (Goller Yoresi) in the Mediterranean Region. It is a unique ecosystem hosting the best examples of deodar and juniper trees interwoven with kasnak oaks (quencus vulcanica) in danger of extinction and a sort peculiar to Turkey.

Isparta-Sutculer Sweet um Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the town Sutculer in the province Isparta in the Mediterranean Region. It has a protection zone status as scare sweetgum tree which is in danger of extinction and which grows in Turkey.

Istanbul-Goknarlık Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the village Tokat in the town Beykoz in Istanbul in the Marmara Region. It is a scarce ecosystem which is in danger and where the only abies stand having a natural spreading in Istanbul.

Kayseri-Sultansazligi Nature Protection Zone
It is in the site Sultansazligi in the towns Develi-Yahyali and Yesilhisar in the province Kayseri in Central Anatolia. It has a protection zone status as there are 301 bird species in danger of extinction and 85 bird species incubate in the well-watered marshy areas of international importance, it is one of the most important incubation areas in Turkey and a scarce ecosystem hosting fresh water and saline water ecosystems, it is the only area where cranes, flamingos, herons, pelicans incubate all together and an important bird accumulation place.

Kirklareli- Bay Kasatura Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the village Kiyikoy in the town Vize in the province Kirklareli in the Marmara Region. It shows characteristics of a forest ecosystem having the only black pine stand in Thrace and of a unique natural zone sheltering a great number of animal and plant species, especially of roe deer.

Kirklareli-Lake Saka Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the village of the village of Sivriler in the town Demirkoy in the province Kirklareli in the Marmara Region. It has protection zone status because of its being a union of ecosystems housing the subasar forest which has a limited spreading and in danger of extinction, a rich wild life well-watered marshy areas and forest ecosystems.

Kırsehir-Lake Seyfe Nature Protection Zone
It is in the site Lake Seyfe in the town Mucur and Centrum in the province Kirsehir in Central Anatolia Region. It is a habitat sheltering great bustard (Otis Tarda) and ruddy sheldrake (Tadorna Ferruyinea) birds in danger of extinction and it is a well-watered marshy filed of international importance because of its hosting 167 waterfowl species and waterfowls over half million.

Konya-Akgol Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the town Eregli in the province Konya in Central Anatolia Region. Akgol and its neighborhood is a scarce ecosystem of national and international importance because of the variety and number of waterfowl species and species that are in danger of extinction or that can be in danger of extinction.

Kutahya-Kasalic Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the village Durabey in the town Domanic in the province Kutahya in the Aegean Region. It has a protection zone status because it represents an example of optimum spreading areas of mixtures of beech and black pine forests whose natural features are undisrupted, there are centennial beech and black pine trees and it has a rich potential of sub flora and wild life.

Kutahya - Vakif Pine Grove Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the village Vakif in the town Tavsanli in the province Kutahya in the Aegean Region. Vakif Pine Grove is the only diffusion area of Ehrami black pine (Pinus nigra ssp. pallasian pyramidata) which is the vaudeville of a unique black pine in danger of extinction in the world. It is a unique ecosystem where the existence of Crimean Pine (Pinus nigra ssp. pallasic var. seneriana), a black pine vaudeville grown only in Turkey, black pine tree and its two vaudevilles can be seen.

Mugla - Sirtlan Mountain Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the village Meselik in the town Milas in the province Mugla in the Aegean Region. The area where Halep pine, a rarely-seen species in our country, composes a scarce ecosystem has a potential of rich wild life and because of this it is an area under protection.

Samsun - Haciosman Forest Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the village Cinarli in the town Carsamba in the province Samsun in the Central Black Sea Region. It is a unique alluvial forest ecosystem which is in danger of extinction and which has a limited diffusion area throughout Europe. Because nourishment is sufficient, it enables a great number of animal species to shelter in the area.

Sinop - Sarikum Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of the village Abali in the town Centrum in the province Sinop in the West Black Sea Region. The fact that coastlines, sand well-watered marshy areas and forest ecosystems coexist, there are species in danger of extinction such as waterfowls and raptors and deer, lynxes, great bustards and swans besides wild grasses; there is an elite and pure ash-tree stand which is a scarce and typical example of a forest composed of a mixture of beech, hornbeam and oak trees has caused this area to be under protection.

Zonguldak - Citdere Nature Protection Zone It is in the borders of the site Dibekyani and Sekermese in the town Yenice in the province Zonguldak in the West Black Sea Region. It has a protection zone status because of being a unique ecosystem where various kinds of tree kinds coexist and the existence of examples of Istranca oak (Quercus hartwvissiana) having a length and diameter rarely seen in the world, its sheltering unique wild animal groups among which there are species in danger of extinction.

Zonguldak - Kavakli Nature Protection Zone
It is in the borders of Bolkus in the town Yenice in the province Zonguldak in the West Black Sea Region. It has a protection zone status because of being a scarce ecosystem where there are a great variety of trees, shrubs and brushes, hosting yew trees (Taxus baccata), hazelnut trees (Corylus colurna) and ash-trees (Fraxius excelsion) with extraordinary lengths and diameters and unique wild animal groups among which there are species in danger of extinction.
