Tulips and the culture of tulips had arrived in Anatolia with the Turks, named an era in Ottoman Empire (1718-1730, Era of Tulips) and then the tulip onions were taken from Istanbul to Europe. Turkey is one of the wealthiest regions of the world when it comes to endemic plants. Of all plant types in Turkey which is more than 9000, more than 3000 of them are endemic which means that they are unique to Turkey. Whereas in all of Europe the number of endemic plants is 2750.

For example the reverse tulip that grows on Hakkari Cilo mountains is a very rare plant and is only found in this area.
